Each patient who plans a breast surgery is unique, with their own specific body type and their own ideas about what the ideal result will be. Through years of working with patients from all the different age groups, we have learned how the surgeries vary within each of these groups. Below, you’ll learn more about what most women are looking for from breast procedures in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s.

In Your 20s

In your 20s, the primary goal of breast surgery is usually the correction of size and/or shape. The number one breast surgery for women in their 20s is breast augmentation using either saline or silicone implants. While adding volume is usually the first concern for women in their 20s, altering the shape of the breasts is also a major priority. Women may want to shift to a more rounded shape or a teardrop shape, for example. Some other potential breast surgeries in this age group may include:

  • Correction of breast deformities
  • Breast reduction for oversized breasts
  • Breast lift with women with sagging breasts
  • Correction of inverted nipples

In Your 30s

Women in their 30s often have many of the same goals as those in their 20s in regard to breast surgeries. The majority of breast surgeries performed for women in this age group are breast augmentations, but correction of post-pregnancy breast changes are also a very popular surgery. Some other potential surgeries for women in their 30s may include:

  • Breast mastopexy (breast lift)
  • Combination breast lift and augmentation
  • Breast reduction for oversized breasts
  • Correction of inverted nipples

In Your 40s

As women enter their 40s, their primary concern may be the restoration of a youthful and feminine look. Breast augmentations and breast lifts are the most common surgeries in this age group, but two other options may include:

  • Combination breast lift and augmentation
  • Breast reduction for oversized breasts

In Your 50s

When women enter their 50s, their main concern may start to shift to breast tissue correction. Common concerns include the loss of breast volume and breast drooping. Some women in this age group have already undergone previous breast surgeries and may be seeking resolution of those surgeries, as well. Common breast surgeries for women in their 50s may include:

  • Breast lift for sagging breasts
  • Breast reduction for oversized breasts
  • Breast augmentation combined with breast lift
  • Breast implant removal or replacement of older breast implants

While the above surgeries may be the most typical examples of what women tend to want in each age group, every person is unique. Your needs may be completely different from another patient’s needs. Our goal at Patterson Plastic Surgery is to help you achieve optimum breast surgery results based upon your specific anatomy and your own goals.
